In the early 1900s, Ricardo Koyner's grandfather fell in love with Panama, bought land near Boquete and began growing coffee. Today, the family business is known as Kotowa Estates (which means "mountains" in the indigenous language). It unites several farms, processing plants and even its own roastery and coffee houses in the region. The plantations, surrounded by nature reserve areas, operate according to the principles of ecological farming, and typically, only half of their area is planted with coffee, the remaining area is home to native fruit trees, which, in addition to shading the coffee trees, also gives food to the local bird population. Our coffee, a selectively harvested, natural-processed Gesha lot, came from the family's Las Brujas plantation.
