Guatemala has been a reliable source of high-quality coffees with distinctive flavours for over 150 years. The country’s coffees stand out due to its diverse microclimates and carefully managed processing techniques. These microclimates, affected by notable altitude variations, give each of the 8 Guatemalan regions- Acatenango Valley, Antigua, Atitlán, Cobán, Fraijanes, Huehuetenango, New Oriente, and San Marcos- its own unique flavour profile. The Mendez sisters, who are fourth-generation coffee farmers near San Pedro Necta in Huehuetenango, became the first female producers to join their exporter, Rosma Coffee Land, in 2010, representing them internationally. Juana and Minga harvest by hand and handle all processing themselves. They dry the cherries on terraces, regularly turning and spreading the fruits to ensure uniform drying.
