Masha was built in 1989 in the Gihororo Commune in the Kayanza province. It lies at an altitude of 1700 metres above sea level. Masha station has more than 2000 registered farmer members, spread over the neighbouring hills. The average smallholder has approximately 250 trees, generally, in their backyards, each tree yields an average of 1.5 kilos of cherry so the average producer sells about 200-300 kilos of cherry annually. Greenco, the company that oversees Masha and 12 other coffee processing facilities in Kayanza province of Burundi, gives washing stations and producers support all along the production chain. They started their work in 2015 and have dominated all Cup of Excellence competitions in Burundi ever since. The producers receive support from the washing station managers who are graduated agronomic engineers. Greenco’s overall impact through these 13 central washing stations (CWS) extends to over 15200 coffee-producing households.
