Finca Maputo is located near the remote village of La Perla, in the northwestern part of Ecuador, close to the Colombian border. The finca is owned by Henry Gaibor and his wife, Verena, who spent their younger years in East African Burundi as a surgeon and nurse, later settled down in Henry's birthplace, and dedicated their retirement to producing coffee. As they say, Henry is extremely methodical with his coffee production and is just as dedicated and passionate as he once was with his profession, so it is not surprising that their coffee regularly achieves high cupping scores. Henry's family operates several farms in the region, divided into plots according to the cultivated varieties (Typica, Sidra, SL28, Bourbon, Kaffa, and Caturra). Harvesting is carried out manually, selectively, and the entire process is done on the spot using wet, natural, or honey methods.
