Kianderi factory (as washing stations are called in Kenya) is one of four that are overseen by the New Weithaga Farmers Cooperative Society, which was established when this factory was built in 1969. The cooperative, which also operates the Koimbi, Kahindu, and Weithaga factories, now has 2,700 smallholder farmer members, about 800 of whom deliver their coffee cherries to Kianderi. The co-op is overseen by seven elected members of a board who represent the local electoral zones. The factory has 35 permanent employees who manage day-to-day tasks such as receiving and sorting coffee, issuing payments, and handling coffee for processing.
