Finca de Cafe, a private plantation founded in 2010, is located in Kirinyaga County, an hour and a half drive from Nairobi. The eight-hectare plantation is located at the foot of the Aberdare mountain range, at an altitude of 1,450 metres above sea level. The owners use sustainable agricultural methods, paying close attention to biodiversity and soil health. A significant portion of the plantation consists of Ruiru 11 shrubs grafted onto the drought-tolerant SL28 arabica rootstock, grown in the shade of native trees in a chemical-free environment. Kenyan small-scale farmers typically sell their coffee cherries to a nearby cooperative. What makes Finca de Cafe special is its own washing station, ensuring its coffees are traceable and the supply chain is direct and transparent.
