El Recreo

COLOMBIA

Our coffee comes from a typical family business run by father and son, Diego and Fernando Ucros. Their farm, El Recreo lies at 1,800-1,900 metres above sea level near the municipality of Tena in the Department of Cundinamarca. The Ucros family grows such arabica varietals as Castillo, Pink Bourbon or Gesha. The latter forms our coffee selectively harvested and processed with the wet method.

Colombia is a country of contrasts. In addition to the geography and climate of the country, we are thinking here of the different cultures and traditions of each region. The accumulated knowledge of coffee growing, the combination of traditions and fresh ideas and the passionate love of work, all together give the uniqueness of Colombian coffees. Today, more than 563,000 families are engaged in coffee cultivation across the country, from the Ecuadorian border to the Caribbean, all across 16 departments. Small and large plantations on the slopes of the Andes, stretching for about 3,000 kilometres, typically run as family businesses. Probably this is the key to the success of Colombian coffee, as family values are paramount in the lives of Colombian people.
