Sironko

UGANDA

Our coffee is produced by smallholder farmers in the Mbale district of eastern Uganda at elevations between 1,800-2,300 metres above sea level. Farmers grow various arabica varietals, mainly SL14, SL28 and SL34, just as they do in neighbouring Kenya. No wonder, Sironko’s taste profile is so similar to Kenyan coffees.

Close to the Kenyan border at an elevation of 1,800-2,300 metres above sea level, the unique microclimate of Mount Elgon provides ideal conditions for high-quality coffee production. Sironko Coffee Yard is a privately owned processing station founded in 2018. They are running a sustainability project with Great Lakes Coffee, a local coffee exporter and Norman Mukuru, a Ugandan coffee specialist. The cooperation is resulting in such fantastic coffees as this one. The farmers involved in the project and each submitted lot will be recorded in an app that calculates the premium of each producer and allows full traceability. The combination of high-quality coffee cherries and meticulous processing results in a coffee that can be easily mistaken with its Rwandan or Kenyan counterparts in a blind test. If you’re interested in what a less terroir-specific, more fermentation-driven Ugandan coffee tastes like, be sure to try our natural-processed Zira Empisa.
