Smallholders often produce lots that aren’t large enough to be exported on their own. However, the quality is usually just as good (or better) as in larger lots. Hence, our partner in Colombia decided to create a micro-region blend from various small producers’ Chiroso microlots in the Urrao region, in the Department of Antioquia. The Chiroso arabica variety was discovered in Urrao in the early 2000s. Its popularity skyrocketed when a Chiroso batch won first place in the 2014 Cup of Excellence competition. Initially believed to be a mutation of Bourbon, research has connected its origin to Ethiopian landraces.
