The Long Miles Coffee Project kicked off in 2012, with the aim to source, process and promote the highest quality coffees of Burundi. Their latest project, Giku is special for many reasons: it was one of the first lots processed at the newly established Ninga washing station and also it was the first time that a micro-lot from Giku became fully traceable. This lot is a great example of a clean and crisp, wet-processed Burundian coffee we all love.

Giku lies high on the slopes of Kayanza hills with an altitude of 1,900 to 2,100 metres above sea level. The fringes of the Kibira Forest, Burundi’s only indigenous rainforest, looms fifty-four kilometres in the distance. There are 498 families delivering their coffee to Ninga washing station from

Giku hill, each with an average of 200 Bourbon trees (a tree produces around 1kg of cherry). Coffee is the most important crop grown on the hill, closely competing with corn and beans. The coffee cherries harvested on Giku hill were processed at Ninga, the newest washing station of the Long Miles

Coffee Project making its debut this season.
