Costa Rica is the home of around 50,000 coffee farmers, 90% of whom produce a seasonal harvest of fewer than 100 bags. The country provides barely 1% of the world’s total coffee consumption, yet Costa Rica still receives great acclaim from coffee enthusiasts. Despite its small land area, the geography of Costa Rica is quite diverse, splitting the country into several different micro regions. The Coopro Naranjo cooperative is located in the West Valley region, near Naranjo de Alaluja. The cooperative has been operating for over 50 years, processing the coffee cherries of about 2,000 smallholders in the surrounding mountains year by year. Our featured coffee is a smallholder blend of local arabica varieties processed with the wet method.
