Aponte

COLOMBIA

Smallholders often produce lots that aren’t large enough to be exported on their own. However, the quality is often just as good (or better) as samples received from larger lots, so our partner in Colombia decided to create a micro-region blend made up of coffee cherries from small producers living near the town of Aponte in the Department of Nariño.

Colombia is a country of contrasts. In addition to the geography and climate of the country, we are thinking here of the different cultures and traditions of each region. The accumulated knowledge of coffee growing, the combination of traditions and fresh ideas and the passionate love of work, all together give the uniqueness of Colombian coffees. Today, more than 563,000 families are engaged in coffee cultivation across the country, from the Ecuadorian border to the Caribbean, all across 16 departments. Small and large plantations on the slopes of the Andes, stretching for about 3,000 kilometres, typically run as family businesses. Probably this is the key to the success of Colombian coffee, as family values are paramount in the lives of Colombian people.
