Sarkin Estate is situated in Kiambu County, near Nairobi. The 24-hectare plantation lies at an altitude of 1,700 metres above sea level at the foot of the Aberdare mountain range. Edwin Gicho Kinyanjui and his family are second-generation coffee farmers who, in addition to coffee, also grow

bananas, avocados and papaya. In Kenya, small-scale farmers like Edwin typically sell their coffee cherries to a nearby cooperative. However, Sarkin Estate, which is considered a ‘small estate’ in local terms, has its own washing station, ensuring that Sarkin’s coffees are guaranteed to be

traceable and the supply chain is direct and transparent.
