Andrés Torres is a passionate specialty coffee grower from Lonya Grande. He owns Santa Teresa, a 7-hectare farm located at 1,600–1,700 metres above sea level, where he cultivates Geisha. Throughout the years, he has taken part in several national competitions, earning a top-10 finish at the 2021

Cup of Excellence. Compared to Peru’s more established coffee regions, Lonya Grande has a relatively shorter history in coffee, which makes it particularly noteworthy. Located in the mountainous northern Amazonas zone, the area was historically isolated. Coffee cultivation grew in the late 20th

century when the Peruvian government encouraged settlement and farming along the eastern slopes of the Andes. In the 2000s, the rise of specialty coffee internationally brought recognition to micro-regions like Lonya Grande. With high altitudes (sometimes 1600–2000 metres), diverse microclimates,

and traditional processing methods, the region’s coffees have earned a strong reputation.
