Endebess Estate is located at the foot of Mount Elgon, near the municipality of Kitale in the Rift Valley Province (now Trans-Nzoia County) of Kenya. Mount Elgon’s rich volcanic soil provides an ideal environment for high-quality coffee cultivation. The total area of the Endebess Estate is about 758 hectares, of which 248 hectares are cultivated for coffee. What’s exciting about the plantation is the use of the natural processing method which is quite uncommon in Kenya. In such cases, the coffee cherries are first washed with fresh water from the Koitobos River and then dried on raised beds for 21-28 days, depending on the weather conditions. Coffee cherries are turned at least four times a day in order to ensure even drying.
