At the turn of the century, Kentucky-born Robert Lamastus established a coffee plantation in Boquete, Panama. At the time the current generation's grandfather processed and exported what is still considered today as one of the highest quality coffees in the world. Nowadays and three generations later the tradition continues, the family still produces, processes, exports and now even roasts its own rare estate coffees. The Lamastus family cultivates coffee on three different farms located in Boquete, Panama. El Burro Estate, Luito Geisha Estates and Elida Estate are all located in the highest area of the country, on steep hills on the skirt of one of the highest volcanoes in Central America, the Baru Volcano. Elida Estate is the highest coffee farm in Panama located between 1,670 and 1,950 metres above sea level.
